Find public schools near any US address
School Time is a free tool that helps families, home buyers, and renters research public schools in any neighborhood across the United States. Enter any US street address to instantly see nearby elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools — complete with grade ranges, total enrollment, and student proficiency scores in math and reading.
School information — including school names, addresses, grade spans, and enrollment figures — comes from the NCES Common Core of Data (CCD), the US Department of Education's annual census of all public elementary and secondary schools. The CCD dataset used here reflects the 2022–23 school year.
Math and reading proficiency scores are sourced from NCES EDFacts, a federal collection of state-reported assessment results. The proficiency figures shown reflect the 2019–20 school year — the most recent year widely available before pandemic-related testing disruptions.
Maps and address geocoding are powered by OpenStreetMap and Nominatim.
Proficiency scores represent the percentage of tested students who met or exceeded their state's grade-level proficiency standard in math or reading. Because each state sets its own standards and uses its own assessments, scores are not directly comparable across state lines — a 70% proficiency rating in one state does not mean the same thing as 70% in another.
Scores are also suppressed for schools with small tested populations to protect student privacy, which is why some schools display no proficiency data. Additionally, the 2019–20 figures predate significant shifts in enrollment and performance caused by school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Treat these scores as one data point among many — not as a definitive measure of school quality.
For the most current performance data, visit your state's department of education website or The Nation's Report Card.
School Time covers public schools only. Private, charter, and magnet schools that operate outside the traditional public school system may not appear. Enrollment boundaries, attendance zones, and school assignments vary by district — always confirm directly with your local school district whether a specific school serves your address.
